文化財保護・博物館行政に尽力し、民具研究に従事した宮本馨太郎。仏製の9.5ミリカメラ、パテーベビーで現地調査を撮影し、作品化した映像民俗学者のパイオニアでもあります。 彼の作品を、いくつかのテーマに沿って取り上げます。 第1回のテーマは『民具・服飾』。馨太郎の初期の作品には、彼と同じく民具、服飾などの現地調査に邁進した父、勢助の姿を捉えたものもあります。民具研究資料としてだけでなく、映像作品としても巧みな構成の『うちわの出来るまで』に加え、父、勢助の服飾調査に同行し撮影した『奥利根の流れ』『片品川に沿うて』の2作品を紹介します。 【作品紹介】 『うちはの出来るまで』（1930年/12分/モノクロ・サイレント/4：3） うちわの製作過程を記録した映画を兄が弟に見せるシーンから始まる、馨太郎作品でも斬新な構成。うちわ作りの行程は、千葉県・千倉町のうちわ屋で撮影された。職人の全体の動きと、手元のアップをバランスよく撮影し、製作の行程を分かりやすく映し出す。 参考資料：パテーシネSep.1931_Vol.4No.9 東京ドキュメンタリー映画祭2021・特別上映『至極の美術工芸』作品 『奥利根の流れ』（1930年/15分/モノクロ・サイレント/4：3） 馨太郎の父、勢助の服飾調査に同行し、撮影した作品。冒頭に手書きの地図を盛り込むなど、地理風俗資料としても意識されている。水上村の全景、自然環境、服飾、村の日常生活（洗濯や畑仕事）など、民俗的な視点が折々に見られる。後半に撮影された一部の地域は、のちに藤原ダムにより水没した地域であり、その意味でも貴重な資料である。 『片品川に沿うて』（1930年/14分/モノクロ・サイレント/4：3） 『奥利根の流れ』同様、馨太郎の父、勢助の服飾調査に同行し、片品川のほとりを訪ね歩いたときの記録。フンゴミ（山袴）、ジュウロウタ（物を背負う際に背中にあてるもの）、ウソグツ（ワラジの上に履くもの）などに出会う。服飾だけでなく、川沿いの絶景や、村落での人々の暮らし、家屋なども詳細に記録している。 参考資料：「泥足の跡」第2輯（立教大学…
